Translating the Septuagint Version of Amos into German

This research is undertaken by Prof. Dr. Aaron Schart in cooperation with Mrs. Dr. Evangelia Dafni and is part of the larger enterprise "Septuaginta-Deutsch". Contact: LXX-Essen@uni-essen.de

The authoritative version of the Old Testament for the New Testament-authors was not the Hebrew Text but the Old Greek Translation instead. In addition, the oldest manuscripts of the complete Christian Bible contained the Old Testament in Greek translation. Therefore it is imperative for a Christian understanding of the Bible to take the Greek Translation into account, even if in Protestant Tradition it became accepted to go "back to the roots", that is to the Hebrew Version of the Old Testament.
