Biographical Information

Julian Sudhoff did a teaching degree in English and Biology (Staatsexamen Sekundarstufe I und II) and now holds a lecturer and research position for Didactics and Applied Linguistics at the Institute for Anglophone Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany).

His main research interests are language teaching and learning methodology, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), Computer Assisted Language Learning and Teaching, intercultural learning, intercultural communicative competence and bilingualism. He is involved and participates in national and European CLIL related projects, for example in the EU-funded CCN (CLIL Cascade Network), in a CLIL curriculum development project funded by the Council of Europe (European Centre for Modern Languages) and in a CLIL workshop within an IATEFL learner autonomy conference.

  • His doctoral thesis entitled Interkulturelles Lernen im Bilingualen Unterricht - Eine Studie zur Konzeption eines Kriterienkatalogs für die qualitative Analyse von Lehrwerken will be available soon.
  • The English department of the University of Koblenz-Landau repeatedly invited Julian to teach courses in the field of Applied Linguistics and Didactics.
  • As congress manager of AILA2008 - 15th World Congress of Applied Linguistics Julian played an integral part in the steering committee of this renowned academic convention.
  • In the course of his academic career, Julian spent a year at Queen Mary and Westfield College (University of London).
  • Julian holds a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate
