General Description
Every English student has to do guided school practice as a part of his or her studies (Module VII, Hauptstudium), i.e. has to go into school, observe lessons and will also have to teach at least one lesson him- or herself. Students have different options of gaining all the necessary experience. These don't differ in their workload but they do differ content-wise and on an organisational level. - Option 1: Kolloquium (preparatory course) + Workshop (practical part at school)
- Option 2: Combinatory Courses (Projects with preparation and integrated school practice)
Option 1: Kolloquium + Workshop
For this option you take part in a weekly course at university (Kolloquium) which serves as a preparation for the actual school practice (Workshop). The Workshop you then do independently. The workshop can be done at the same time as the Kolloquium, i.e. during the semester, or directly after the semester. The workshop will be organised by the general “Praktikumsbüro” which will organise a school for you but which is also open for suggestions if you are already in contact with a school of your choice.
After you have finished the practical part at school, you write a report on your experience which you then hand in to the lecturer of your Kolloquium. This report (Praktikumsbericht) serves as a Leistungsnachweis for module VII.
Option 2: Our Projects (Combinatory Courses)
These are project-based courses in which preparation, the practical teaching part and the reflection are done within the same course, i.e. Kolloquium and Workshop are done in one course. This means that all planning and thinking is goal-oriented and contributes to the success of a concrete project that you are carrying out. The projects are planned and carried out during an allocated time in the week and will be finished by the end of the semester.
If you choose this option, you have to enrol for one of the projects through the LSF. Once you have been accepted into the course, you then go and see the Praktikumsbüro in order to enrol for the actual Workshop (naming the school where the project takes place as "Praktikumsschule". The Leistungsnachweis for Module VII can be obtained by handing in a report on the project.
Some advantages of this option:
- You take part in one of our interesting projects, i.e.
- You experience project-based planning and teaching
- All planning is goal oriented
- You will normally be able to work in small groups or in pairs.
