CeNIDE, the Center for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen, was founded in 2005 by members of the physics, chemistry and engineering departments as a framework for the diverse nano-activities at the Universtiät Duisburg-Essen (UDE).

CeNIDE is based on the strongly interdisciplinary research excellence in the area of Nanotechnology at UDE. This includes an exceptionally broad knowledge base in fundamental nanoscience, unique fabrication facilities for nanoscale materials in large quantities, and experience in questions of scalability and reliability.

The Know how incorporates a number of coordinated research networks, such as Collaborative Research Centers (SFB) and DFG Research Training Groups (GK)

as well as several third party projects and joint ventures with industrial partners.

CeNIDE promotes the interdisciplinary education at the Universität Duisburg-Essen in the area of Nanotechnolgy, such as the newly established "Nanoengineering" study program.

In November 2006 the CeNIDE office was launched to strengthen the university-wide nanotechnology platform. The main goal is to promote communication and collaboration among the different groups working in nanoscience and technology and industrial partners. CeNIDE office acts as the central contact point for industry.
