P3: Coating (immobilization, processing)
| A key step towards functional hybride Nanoparticle materials is the development and optimization of suitable techniques for the fabrication and modification of Nanoparticle coatings and Nanoparticle bulk materials. For this purpose, functionalized Nanoparticles, as produced in P1 and P2, are used in order to fabricate the materials required in A1-A5. Processing techniques include printing and molding methods as well as plasma and laser procedures. Printing and molding methods are used for coating and integration of Nanoparticles into a variety of technologically important interfaces. Plasma and laser procedures allow one to precisely modify Nanoparticle coatings and materials. Spark plasma sintering is used to fabricate nanostructured bulk materials for thermoelectric applications. Plasma etching of NP/polymer materials provides a promising means to tailor the wettability of bipolar plates for fuel cells. Laser heating and sintering are exploited for integration of NP into photovoltaic devices. All these techniques are optimized in order to meet the specific needs of the targeted applications. In laser sintering, for example, the choice of parameters such as laser wavelength, pulse fluence, pulse length and pulse repetition rate allow one to tune and control processing for variety of distinct materials. |
