    BGH-Urteil zur Patentierung von Stammzellen - eine verpasste Chance
    Es wäre schön gewesen, wenn dies eine weise Entscheidung des Hohen Gerichts geworden wäre, die die aktuellen Forschungsinteressen berücksichtigt, aber man hat nur an den konkreten Fall (den Patentstreit Greenpeace vs. Brüstle) gedacht.     Der Europäische Gerichtshof (EuGH) in Luxemburg hat am 18. Oktober 2011 eine Grundsatzentscheidung zur Patentierung von Stammzellen getroffen, die weitreichende Konsequenzen haben wird: Stammzellen, deren Erzeugung die Zerstörung von menschlichen Embryonen einschließt bzw. erfordert hat (Embryonale Stammzellen, ES-Zellen), sind nicht patentierbar...     Debatten des Deutschen Bundestags über Gesetzentwürfe zur PID/PGD
    Der Verlauf der jüngsten Bundestagsdebatten zu diesem Thema und auch die wiederholten Terminverschiebungen machen den Eindruck einer gewissen Hilflosigkeit. Das muss insofern nicht sehr überraschen, als die Materie in der Tat schwierig ist. Umso wichtiger erscheint, die Diskussion auf einer möglichst gut fundierten wissenschaftlichen Basis stattfinden zu lassen... [mehr]

    Das Poster liegt hier jetzt in ganzer Länge eingescannt als PDF vor. Wertvoll sind vor allem die detailgetreuen Abbildungen der Morphologie von Kaninchenembryonen, die sich weitgehend normal entwickelt haben, obwohl ihre Implantation im Uterus experimentell (durch eine Dauerinfusion von Proteinaseinhibitor) verhindert worden war. Diese Befunde sind sonst nirgendwo so detailliert veröffentlicht worden. Sie sind nicht nur für den Embryologen sondern auch für die Allgemeinheit von besonderem Interesse, denn sie widersprechen eindeutig der oft geäußerten Ansicht, dass die Einnistung des Embryos im Uterus eine unabdingbare Voraussetzung für die weitere Differenzierung (Bildung der Körpergrundgestalt), d.h. von kausaler Bedeutung für die Entwicklung, sei. Diese falsche Vorstellung kann man leider immer noch in Ethikdebatten (z.B. über Stammzellerzeugung aus frühen Embryonen oder über die Anwendung von IUDs/"Spirale" zur Kontrazeption) hören.
    Für den Embryologen sind daneben auch die morphologischen Details von Interesse, die diese Aralditschnitte von Kaninchenembryonen in selten klarer Weise zeigen, und zwar sowohl von dem an der Implantation gehinderten als auch einem normalen Kontrollembryo, sowie von der Interaktion des invasiven Trophoblasten mit dem Endometrium.

    Dieses Poster wird hier in voller Länge als PDF wiedergegeben, weil die Abbildungen und Befunde, die es präsentiert, sonst nirgendwo ausführlich publiziert worden sind. Unsere Untersuchungen über die Rolle von gelatinolytischen Proteinasen bei der Embryo-Impantation beim Pferd sind leider fragmentarisch geblieben und auch nicht von anderen Gruppen fortgesetzt worden. Dafür sind logistische Gründe ausschlaggebend gewesen: Nur aus personellen und finanziellen Gründen war es nicht möglich, die hier präsentierte Serie durch weitere Embryonen (vor allem der besonders interessanten Stadien) zu ergänzen. So sind die Abbildungen und Daten dieses Posters die einzigen publizierten Detail-Informationen zu Proteinasen bei der Embryo-Implantation beim Pferd geblieben.
