Faculty of Economics and Business Administration
Short Profile

Eyetracking - a method of consumer research in marketing.
Globalisation has become an increasingly important aspect of our societes during recent years. As information and communication technology (ICT) advances, technology transfer becomes faster, the boundaries of national economies are erased, and the competitive pressure on organisations increases. Does this international networking of the markets for goods, finance and information present an opportunity or pose a risk?
The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Duisburg-Essen picks up on and analyses current economic, business, and ICT issues from all key perspectives along the industry-trade-service-consumer supply chain. The main focus is on empirical economic research, energy, health, trade, entrepreneurship, e-business and e-learning, software-intensive systems, and corporate and system modelling. These are complemented by research focussing on important aspects particular to the various fields (business studies, economics, computer science, business information systems).
Efficient organisation of economic structures and processes is impossible without systematic processing of information, just as IT systems cannot be developed and operated without reference to economic principles and conditions. "Networking across disciplines" describes the successful, practice-oriented model developed by the Faculty. The integration of Business Studies, Computer Science, Business Information Systems and Economics is a unique competitive advantage for the university and helps to produce highly skilled graduates. Research and teaching in the Faculty are interdisciplinary, which amongst other things enables students to switch smoothly between a range of course options.
In addition to programmes in Computer Science, Business Studies, Health Care Management, Economic Studies and Business Information Systems, the Faculty also offers Computer Science and Business Administration components for teacher training students. Continuing education courses for professionals are also available, including the virtual programme in Business Information Systems (VAWi), and the Master of Science in Public Transport Management.
