Preparing students for their future careers

A broad academic Spectrum

The university’s academic spectrum ranges from the well established humanities, social sciences and economic sciences over the highly regarded design faculty up to the engineering and natural sciences (including medicine).

A growing number of faculties now offer both bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes to prepare students for their future careers. A high priority has been assigned to setting up these programmes, which are modular, geared to international standards, and (in most cases) interdisciplinary. Not surprisingly, they also attract students from outside the Rhine-Ruhr area. The courses of study for future doctors and teachers all culminate in the traditional state examination.

The university also offers attractive programmes for people who are already part of the working world. For students trying to hold down a job and earn a degree at the same time, e-learning is an effective and versatile learning modality.
