Person at the Rector's Office responsible for gender equality issues

Vice Rector for Diversity Management

Since implementing gender mainstreaming is the duty of all high-ranking administrative employees at the University, and in particular of members of the University's governing bodies, the Rector's office has appointed the Vice Rector for Diversity Management, Prof. Dr. Ute Klammer, as the person to contact for all questions related to gender equality at the University. With this step, the work of the Equal Opportunity Office and the university administration has been harmonized and the foundation laid for a close collaboration between the Rector's Office and the Equal Opportunity Officer.

Faculties

Decentral Equal Opportunity Officers

The decentral Equal Opportunity Officers are the representatives of the Equal Opportunity Officer in the various faculties.

The implementation of gender mainstreaming as a university-wide mandate and the multitude of tasks entrusted to the Equal Opportunity Officer make it necessary to set up permanent points of contact for gender equality issues at the various levels of the University. Since January 2007, moreover, the Law on Universities of the German State of NRW has stipulated the existence of Equal Opportunity Officers in the faculties. The Statues of the UDE, in § 7, Para. 3, specify the appointment of decentral Equal Opportunity Officers in the faculties:

"(3) Equal Opportunity Officers shall be elected by the Executive Committees of the various faculties from a list of candidates proposed by women members of the faculty. The Equal Opportunity Officer of the University can be represented, for the purpose of carrying out tasks within her sphere of responsibility that impact the faculties, by the Equal Opportunity Officers of the individual faculties. However, any conclusive statements required on gender equality issues shall be made by the Equal Opportunity Officer of the UDE."

Coordination Office for Diversity Management

The Coordination Office for Diversity Management was established after the restructuring of the ZfH. The former "Department for Gender Mainstreaming and the Promotion of Women" has taken on new responsibilities and been renamed the "Department of Career Development". As before one of the main activities of this department is the human resource development of young women academics. In keeping with a strategy which views gender mainstreaming as a cross-departmental task, the other two competence areas also assign a major role to gender aspects and implement them to different degrees.

The Coordination Office for Diversity Management was established to initiate and coordinate activities in this area in recognition of the fact that gender mainstreaming is a high-level task. Furthermore, the Coordination Office, acting in close cooperation with the Equal Opportunity Officer, advises the faculties, governing bodies and other institutions at the University on the implementation of gender mainstreaming and diversity management.
