Responsibilities of the Equal Opportunity Officer

The Equal Opportunity Officer represents the interests of all women at the University including students, academic and non-academic staff, and professors. She advises all players on the university scene on issues of gender equality and in individual cases assists women employees and students.

Furthermore, she exerts her influence to encourage the University to take account of questions relevant to women and to the subject of gender equality in all its activities.

The Equal Opportunity Officer also participates in all human resource, social and organisational measures undertaken by the University which impact women. In particular, she is involved in procedures for hiring new employees and appointing professors and in programs aimed at developing human resources and making it easier to combine studying or holding down a job with having a family.

Other important elements of the Equal Opportunity Officer's work are developing concepts and measures for implementing gender mainstreaming and checking to what extent programs designed to promote women and create equal opportunities at the University have been implemented.

The Equal Opportunity Officer is a voting member of the Equal Opportunity Commission. She attends meetings of the University Council, the Senate, the Commissions and the Rector's Office in an advisory capacity.
The Equal Opportunity Officer carries out her duties on the basis of the Law on Universities (HG), The Law on Equal Opportunity in North Rhine/Westphalia (LGG) and other statutory provisions of the German state of NRW.
