Students of international Programmes - except for Erasmus Exchange students

If you have applied for a scholarship and been admitted, we would like to ask you to first inform the responsible faculty or the responsible lecturer at the University of Duisburg Essen,
As soon as you have informed the faculty/lecturer, please contact the International Office. We clarify all enrolment formalities with you and are happy to answer your questions concerning your stay abroad.

The welcome guide for exchange students can be downloaded:

Accomodation in Duisburg-Essen

Depending on which campus your study course is, you should opt for accommodation in one of both cities: Duisburg or Essen.
The distance between both localities is about 20 km and both campuses can be quickly reached by public transport (duration: about 45 minutes).

"Orientation Days"

The Orientation phase is the best possibility to quickly find contact and orientation. There are the following offers at the beginning of each semester (this means BEFORE lectures begin):

  • The International Office offers "Orientierungstage" (orientation days) for international students. You can learn everything about the organization of your studies, the university and student activities in Duisburg, Essen and the surrounding areas at the "O-days" (taking place one week before the semester begins) from other students. In addition to that excursions to the highlights of the Rhein-Ruhr Area will be organized. After the O-days the International Office offers a personal mentoring by 'buddies'.
  • Please find the orientation days of the faculties at:
    http://www.uni-due.de/erstsemester/orientierungsphasen.
