Major research interest is the confluence of Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics, including also
Architectural Patterns for cognitive robot systems. Projects have been carried out in the medical field,
e.g. gait analysis or liver perfusion, and in diverse industries, e.g. driver assistance systems,
robots for object inspection, vision-based tool-handling.
Co-organizer of several workshops (e.g. ERLARS 2008, AFPAC 97, CAIP 97), tutorials on learning-based
robot vision (ICRA 2000, DAGM 2000), guest-editor of the journal "Künstliche Intelligenz"
("Artificial Intelligence") on this topic.
