PD Dr. Patrick Heinrich was awarded a collaborative research grant of the Humboldt-Foundation and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science and is staying at the Univ of Ryukyus as a visiting scholar. He is currently working on documenting local languages of Yonaguni, Okinawa.

The Fritz Thyssen Foundation supports the funding on a conference titled „Babel in Reverse? Language ideology in the 21st century“. The conference will be convened in Mülheim between February 20th to 23rd 2007. Participants from Japan, China, Australia and Europe will discuss language endangerment and language revitalisation efforts in the 21st century.
