MIND/BODY MEDICINE
Studies reveal that 60-90% of all visits to the doctor in Western countries are due to stress-induced illnesses. Mind/Body Medicine aims at incorporating stress-alleviation procedures and new forms of lifestyle changing methods into people’s everyday lives and works on the principle that a health-oriented lifestyle mobilizes self-healing capacities. Mind/Body therapy embraces nutrition, exercise, relaxation response, cognitive restructuring and stress management.
The fundamental principles of Mind/Body Medicine were elaborated at the Mind/Body Medical Institute of Harvard Medical School, Boston (USA) and at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester (USA). Prof. Dobos has been collaborating with both institutions for a number of years.
The new Chair in Essen focuses on the application of Mind/Body therapy in cases of coronary artery disease, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, migraine and cancer such as breast cancer.
