First class scientific education has never been offered exclusively by the big universities only. Rather small universities like the university Duisburg-Essen can offer exquisite study conditions on their specialities with close contact between students and professors, hence a climate that is good for research. The Advanced Study Program (ASP) in Physics at campus Duisburg offers such a research oriented education focussing on the physics of
New Materials or Complex Systems.
It is the aim of the ASP to enhance student exchange and research cooperation within an increasing network of universities worldwide which offer corresponding programs.
Who can enroll? Advanced students in Physics (third year or more with proficiency in German).
Graduation: Diploma Degree in Physics. This is equivalent to a master degree including one year of research work. Best grades entitle for continuation with PhD-Programs without further exams. Double graduation offered by partner universities. Bachelor and master degree programs will be offered by fall 2006.
Features: The Advanced Study Program offers special features to facilitate the integration of foreign students: Tutorial system, coaching, early integration into the research groups, teaching assistant positions, international physics club, bilingual courses (in German and English), credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), lectures by guest professors.
What does it cost? There is no tuition fee. Living costs are about 500 - 600 EURO per month. For fellowships see for example http://www.daad.de.
