Intention of the support programme

The programme's aim is to support university-level institutions in establishing permanent and reliable structures to finance open access publications.

Support in 2013

In 2013, the DFG will provide once again subsidies for financing open access publications at the Duisburg-Essen University. The UDE will receive € 36.168 from the DFG for this purpose. The university has committed to allocate further € 12.056 from its own funds for publishing in open access journals in 2013.

Conditions for sponsoring

The DFG has linked the application of funds to the following conditions:

  • A member of the Duisburg-Essen University is the submitting author or the corresponding author of an article and, therefore, responsible for the payment of its processing fees.
  • The articles have got to be published in journals whose contents are instantly available online and free of charge once they are published ("genuine open access journals" that are recorded in the Directory of Open Access Journals) and which apply acknowledged methods of quality assurance.
  • The processing fees must not exceed € 2.000 per article.
  • The DFG’s funds must not be used to unlock articles form journals liable to subscription for the open access (e.g. "open choice").
  • Publications that are financed by means from the promotional programme should contain a special note within the acknowledgements.

If the above-mentioned conditions apply, the article’s procession fees are paid entirely by the DFG’s means upon application.

Application for subsidies

Please let the university library know by e-mail (openaccess@ub.uni-due.de) as soon as an open access journal has accepted an article to be published, and please name the emerging expenses.

Please pass the invoice for the processing fees on to the university library (Campus Duisburg, LK library, Department Media Processing) in order to authorize payment.

Report of Open Access Publications in the University Bibliography

The university is bound to issue a project report, in which the DFG expects statements regarding the quantity of publications released in open access journals. So, apart from the publications that are liable to processing fees, please also notify to the university library all further open access publications.

Contact

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the university library via e-mail to openaccess@ub.uni-due.de.
