She then founded the 'Engineering Community for Roads and Transport'. She is working in the field of road construction and infrastructure (roads, air traffic areas, container storage areas, parking lots a.s.o.).

In 1996 she was appointed Professor at the University Essen within the Department of Civil Engineering, responsible for road construction.

Since November 2009, she is head of the 'Institute of Road Construction and Transportation Engineering' at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Teaching

The 'Institute of Road Construction and Transportation Engineering' teaches in the fields of traffic route construction and traffic engineering.
The teaching includes amongst others the basics of road construction, road maintenance, airports, railways, management of road maintenance, the design of traffic areas, public transportation and road infrastructure planning.

Research

The research completed by Professor Edeltraud Straube and her staff include the following main areas:

  • Feasibility study for evaluation and assessment of skid resistance-improving measures by abrasive techniques on asphalt roads in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate
  • Temperature correction of the Falling-Weight-Deflectometer measurements
  • Development of long-lasting surface courses of asphalt using epoxy resin
  • Systematic application of removing skid resistance-improving measures on stone mastic asphalt 0/11 S
