EastAsiaNet is a network of leading European research schools with a well-developed social-science focus on East Asia, plus others that aspire to develop in this direction. It takes up issues that surpass the capacity of single institutions in training and in research. Ultimately, it contributes high-level expertise to a European perspective on Euro-Asia relations.

Latest research workshop: Barcelona, October 25–26, 2012
Two topics have been in the focus of the autumn workshop of EastAsiaNet:
– The Nature and Evolution of Governance and Civil Society in Contemporary East Asia
– The Role of Governance and Civil Society in Managing Risk in Contemporary East Asia.
The workshop was hosted by the Barcelona Centre for International Studies (Fundació CIDOB) in Barcelona.
EastAsiaNet Award for Academic Books and Articles granted in October 2012
At the 10th EAN research workshop and business meeting held at the CIDOB Foundation of Barcelona in October 2012, the first EastAsiaNet Awards for Academic Books and Articles were granted. The purpose of the EastAsiaNet Award is to recognize and encourage exemplary scholarship in contemporary East Asian studies with a social science focus.
