Global BYU Accounting Research Ranking
Strong results for MSM and UDE

According to the latest BYU Accounting Research Ranking, the Mercator School of Management at the University of Duisburg-Essen is one of the world’s top-performing research centres in this field. Compiled by Brigham Young University (USA), the ranking is based on the systematic evaluation of publications in twelve leading international peer-reviewed journals since 1990. Within the international academic community, it is regarded as an important, data-driven benchmark for assessing research performance and visibility.
The ranking is categorised by subject area – Accounting Information Systems (AIS), Auditing, Finance, Management and Tax – as well as by research methods.
The UDE currently holds the following top rankings:
• 3rd place worldwide in the field of AIS
• 38th place worldwide in the field of auditing
Special mention should be made of the significant achievements of the MSM professors and early-career researchers:
• Professor Marc Eulerich, Chair of Internal Audit, is ranked second worldwide in the individual rankings for Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and seventh worldwide for Auditing. Over a six-year period, he is ranked 15th overall.
• Professor Sebastian Firk, Chair of Management Control at MSM, has been ranked 83rd in the world for managerial accounting.
• Professor Inga Hardeck, Chair of Business Administration and specialist in business taxation at MSM, is ranked 50th in the world for tax.
• Dr Annika Bonrath and Dr Vanessa López Kasper, both from the Chair of Internal Audit at MSM, are also featured in the top 100 of the ranking.
According to Managing Director Dr Sascha Slunder, the Mercator School of Management has made a significant contribution to these results: “These strong rankings are a clear indication of the international competitiveness of UDE’s research. They highlight the successful research strategy of the Mercator School of Management and the increased visibility of UDE as a centre of excellence for accounting research.”
