UDE Event on the Tag des Grundgesetzes on 23 May

The UDE wanted to engage with the people of Duisburg and Essen, and it succeeded. On 23 May, the Tag des Grundgesetzes and the Federal President’s Day of Honour, the Rectorate, academics and staff spoke with passers-by in the pedestrian zones of Duisburg and Essen: about us, our cities, our future, the Gundgesetz, and the importance of universities and academia. There were also some fascinating exhibits to discover.
There was a huge turnout, with many interested people turning up to discuss: what science means for a democratic society, why democracy needs reliable facts – and how research impacts everyday life. The event also explored how images and opinions are formed, through engaging discussions and entertaining quizzes, covering topics that are essential to a democracy, such as politics, education, health, climate, biodiversity, data and diversity.
