Exchanging Knowledge | Building Trust | Advancing Research

When signing the ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ in the beginning of the year 2016, the Centre for Logistics and Traffic (ZLV) and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) once again proved their willingness to exchange state of research based on mutual trust and thus, pushing the programme Emerging Concepts of Logistics (ECoL) closer to an environment of Open Innovation.

ECoL network strategies aim at intensifying scientific collaboration with institutions all over the world so as to merge competencies and conduct interdisciplinary research and innovation. Within recent activities by the Centre for Logistics & Traffic (ZLV) in 2015, both, the ECoL Summer School as well as the German-Arab Knowledge Transfer Colloquium represent significant milestones in creating an inspiring and innovative network. One of the key partners in these activities was the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Alexandria, Egypt represented by Professor Yasser Gaber Al-Dessouky. Gaber Al-Dessouky, Dean of Scientific Research and Innovation, contributes greatly to keeping a mutual exchange between the University of Duisburg-Essen, in particular the ZLV, and research establishments in the Middle-East, amongst others the AASTMT. In order to highlight common goals after successful years of collaboration on several projects and activities, ZLV and AASTMT signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ recently. As part of the agreement, two PhD candidates from AASTMT are joining ZLV this year to implement their expertise to ongoing projects on the EU level. Since the PhD candidates’ fields of research are highly relevant to ECoL’s research activities and vice versa, their contribution is expected to be an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and develop new cultural and scientific competencies for both regions.
