(Un)Recognised Female Scientists – Coffee Talk on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Even though they may not always enjoy much visibility, women have long been successful researchers. In his keynote lecture ‘Women are saving the world: (un)recognised female scientists’, Professor Dr. Hendrik Härtig introduces a number of well-known and lesser-known female figures
in the natural sciences. He also examines why they faced greater challenges than their male counterparts did and whether the situation is better today. This question will be the springboard for our discussion following the lecture.
All members and guests of UDE are encouraged to share their experiences (also via an anonymised tool) over a cup of coffee or tea. We will be using the International Day of Women and Girls in Science as an occasion to talk about recognition (and the lack thereof) for achievements in science and structural discrimination. The Coffee Talk will be accompanied by examples in the form of images and biographies from the AI exhibition project ‘Missed Pictures’ (‘Versäumte Bilder’). The event is jointly organized and run by the UDE Equal Opportunities Office, the Diversity Support Center and the Graduate Center Plus. Registration until 10 February 2025: https://eveeno.com/coffee-talk
