Interdisciplinary Center for Analytics on the Nanoscale, ICAN Core Facility

The Center for Nano Analytics combines devices, methods and expertise for analysis at the nanometer scale. For the working groups of the University of Duisburg-Essen and their partners it offers the opportunity to analyze their samples with the most appropriate methods:

The characterization includes both static snapshots of the structure of the material as well as time-resolved processes that are significant in the synthesis and for the function of materials.

As far as possible analyses take place under technically realistic conditions, include in-situ and ex-situ methods and even cover studies on model systems. Some of the very complex devices do not only go beyond the financial scope of individual projects and working groups, but they also require special know-how to plan and conduct the analysis. With appropriate professional qualification users get personal access to the devices. Otherwise ICAN advises in the selection of methodology, takes the measurements and is ready to help in interpreting the results.
