Coral reefs are like the tropical rain foresst top in biodiversity on ouer planet. Both ecosystems are under extrem threats by natural human caused (anthropogenic) influences.
Everybody should support activities, which prevent the distruction and disturbance of these sensitive ecosystems.
The method of fluorescence analysis durin night dives is a valuable method to check the satus of coral reefs in addition to Reef Chec activities during the day. In contrast to Reef Checks (Surveys) during the day it is very effective to detect tiny (1 mm) primary coralls(recruits) with fluorescence during night dives. In large Scanning Surveys with HighPower fluorescence torches it is possible to distinguish easily living from dead coral (and corals partially injured by coral attacting animals and environmental factors (pollution). The easy detection of young coral settlers (recruits) during the night allows an estimation of a possible regeneration of coral reefs.
It is our ambition to mobilize the public and especially the decision makers (politians, Journalist and idustry manager) for a better protection of this sensible Ecosystem. The important diver community ( the divers have a vital interest in sustainabilty) should increase their influence to support the protection of this delicate Ecosystem. A small contribution to this aim are our workshps
Workshops like this in Mai 2015 (see News) could help that the diver community will even stronger engaged in coral reef protection and mangrove survival (essential for coast management).
