Career Paths for Early Career Researchers
Academic Career Goals and Paths
At the latest at the end of the doctorate, doctoral researchers are faced with the important question of how their career should continue after their PhD studies. The doctoral degree opens up a wide range of career paths for early career researchers in universities, research institutions, industry and society.
In addition to university professorships, for which the appointment chances in Germany are quite low, there are many alternative career goals that can be prepared during the doctorate or in a subsequent phase at the university by making targeted use of the offers available at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The following figure provides an overview of possible career goals (without claiming to be exhaustive). Competent contact persons for career counselling are the UDE professors. You are also welcome to contact the GC Plus team with your questions.
