A mentoring programme for female researchers

mentoring³ is explicitly aimed at female early career researchers. Postdoctoral and doctoral researchers of the University Alliance Ruhr universities who are aiming for a career in science and research can take part on an annual rotation basis.

mentoring³ is part of the Research Academy Ruhr programme and offers the participants a two-year course tailored to their respective professional culture. GC Plus coordinates the activities for the humanities, economics and social sciences, TU Dortmund University for engineering sciences and Ruhr-Universität Bochum for natural sciences. However, this division only applies to coordination. Candidates from all disciplines and all three universities are invited to apply for participation.

How does mentoring³ work?

The mentoring³ programme consists of the following modules:

  • one-to-one mentoring
  • seminars
  • networking
  • supporting programme

One-to-one mentoring is the classic form of mentoring, which focuses on the personal relationship between mentee and mentor. The mentor accompanies the mentee in her career planning and supports the development of her potentials and competencies. He or she provides the mentee with important knowledge about structures and processes in scientific operations and promotes the expansion of their contact network.

The seminar programme is oriented towards interdisciplinary competences that are related to the respective subject culture as well as to interdisciplinary competences in research (potential analysis and career planning, leadership requirements, third-party funding acquisition and international research funding, application and appointment training, team and conflict management, etc.).

Networking events such as fireplace evenings with experts on relevant topics of scientific careers are also part of the programme.

The offer is framed by an introductory workshop to prepare for mentoring, an interim review and a final workshop.

The next programme line for female postdoctoral researchers will start in October 2019. The application period ended on 15 July 2019. Please note: The registration deadline for postdoctoral researchers in Engineering Sciences has been extended to 29 August 2019.
