Prof. Heberer has been involved with China in academic and professional capacity the past 30 years and he has, during this time, accumulated a wealth of research experience. In five individual lectures during the winter term 2019/20, he will share his profound knowledge about research on and fieldwork in China with the audience.
The session topics cover a number of different pressing issues faced by China and the world and they focus on fieldwork methods employed and research results gained by Prof. Heberer throughout his work. We expect that all participants will profit greatly from his expertise in empirically grounded and theory-driven research and hope for a fruitful exchange of ideas in the discussion part of each session.
Die Schlaglichter, die behandelt werden, beinhalten u.a. die Amtsführung des Präsidenten („I can be the most presidential person ever, other than possibly the great Abe Lincoln, alright?“), seine Kommunikationsweise und „colorful language“, den politisierten Obersten Gerichtshof, und das umstrittene Politikfeld der Krankenversicherung, in dem Herr Trump zu Beginn seiner Amtszeit Reformen versprochen hatte „that expand choice, increase access, lower costs, and at the same time provide better health care.“
Unsolved history issue between the two countries, which is very political and diplomatic, has been developed into trade dispute and causing tension in the region. Japan removed South Korea from its so-called “white-list” for export and South Korea reacted by removing Japan from Korea’s white list, filing a complaint with the WTO against Japan for imposing export control, and also announced the termination of GISOMIA. The issue is influencing not only the performance of companies and economy of both countries, but also influencing the regional security issues.
