Guest Lecture on "Complementarity in innovation"
Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2015
Venue: Building SG, Room SG 183
Geibelstraße 41, 47057 Duisburg, University of Duisburg-Essen
While there is considerable experience accumulated in the field of innovation policy in developed economies, much of this is not directly applicable to developing countries due to the nature of the characteristics these countries have. The situation is rendered more complicated because the “developing world” presents very diverse situations in terms of levels of development, culture, institution etc. The lecture tries to discuss the nature of innovation in developing countries and the potential synergistic effects which exist or might emerge among different aspects during the innovation process.
Dr. Jun Hou is a research officer at the University of Oxford. His research interests cover technological change and firms' innovative behavior in developing countries, complementarity assets in innovation and development, obstacles to innovation, outward FDI in emerging economies. Dr. Hou obtained his PhD in the Economics and Policy Studies of Technical Change from Maastricht University. He finished his MA in Economics of Development from Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Before joining the MERIT PhD Programme, Dr. Hou was also an intern in United Nations Environmental Programme, Global Programme of Action office."
