On June 25, 2015, the China Center for Contemporary Studies (CCCWS) visited the Institute for East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) for a joint seminar on the “New Silk Road” initiative. The event marks the beginning of a Sino-European cooperation that aims to facilitate an international dialog and provide a basis for mutual understanding.
Social scientists and economists from China and Europe met in Duisburg to discuss China’s “One Belt One Road” initiative. His Excellency GUO Yezhou, Vice Minister of the International Department, Central Committee of CPC, provided information about the motives and goals of Chinese government for engaging in this huge project. In this context he also stressed the important role that the city of Duisburg plays due to its geographical location and thanks to the “Yuxinou” train connection between Chongqing and the port of Duisburg. He invited the participating scholars to give their expert opinion on the “One Belt One Road” initiative. Based on their field of expertise, the participants presented their ideas and thoughts.
