Methods Workshop, and Thu, Nov 20, 2014: Book Discussion with Guest Professor Jeffrey Broadbent
The IN-EAST invites advanced MA students, doctoral candidates and post-docs in the Institute of East Asian Studies to two Workshops which are planned as part of the Guest Professorship to the Graduierten Kolleg 1613 Risk and East Asia held in November 2014 by Jeffrey Broadbent, Department of Sociology and Center of Global Studies, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Methods Workshop: Policy Network Analysis and Discourse Network Analysis: Techniques, Software and Applications to Social Scientific Research
This workshop will involve an introduction to both methods, with examples from Broadbent’s own research papers. Participants are invited to come with their own data and research questions to discuss how the methods may apply to their research.

Brown Bag: What’s Different About Social Movements in East Asia?
The brown bag is an opportunity to discuss Jeff Broadbent’s recent book:
Jeffrey Broadbent and Vicky Brockman (Eds.) 2010: East Asian Social Movements: Power, Politics and Social Change in a Dynamic Region. Springer Verlag.
This book is a collaborative effort with a number of leading East Asian scholars in social movement and social change research.
