The University of Duisburg-Essen is pleased to invite you to attend our international research conference on environmental governance to be held May 18, 2010 until May 20, 2010 at "Die Wolfsburg" conference center in Mülheim/Ruhr, Germany.
The research conference entitled "Implementation of Environmental Policies in Urban and Rural China – Successes, Problems and Deficits" is the concluding part of four years of empirical research the two organizers have conducted in both three Chinese cities and counties. Therefore, this research conference shall allow for further mutual learning and cooperation in the field of environmental governance implementation through an interdisciplinary exchange of researchers, non-governmental activists, and the public. In order to place the research findings within a broader context, we are glad to welcome 15 highly acknowledged scholars in the field of environmental governance from China, the United States of America, and Europe. The invited speakers do encompass a wide range of scientific disciplines such as political science, sociology, economics, and biology. The interdisciplinary scientific approach on environmental governance will be completed by the expertise of both Chinese and German non-governmental activists.
The aim of the conference is to exchange recent empirical research findings in the fields of environmental governance in China, Europe and Germany with regard to four theme sessions on Ecological Governance, Ecological Implementation Problems, Participation, and Environmental Governance Comparison. Special attention will be paid to identifying administrative practices, deficits and reforms in China as well as comparing the results to environmental administrative systems in the world and Germany in particular.
