Peridynanics (PD) is a new continuum framework for damage model proposed by Silling in 2000. It describes both the continuum domain and the damage domain using the same formulation which is based on integral form, where the fracture pattern (i.e. the crack branch or coalescence of multiple cracks) is a natural result during the simulation without using the trial function or embedded fracture energy model in meshfree method and extended finite element method. However, traditional peridynamics must employ constant horizon radius, otherwise spurious wave reflection emerges, which therefore leads to the wrong solution. We propose to solve this problem simply by using the dual-horizon peridynamics (DHPD). In this presentation, the concept of dual-horizon by separating the forces into direct force and reaction force thus completely solves the "ghost force" issue will be introduced. The governing equation for dual-horizon peridynamics will be shown to fulfill the balances of linear momentum.
