Welcome to the Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr!

Major Project: The New Silk Road

Panel Discussion on Sino-European Cooperation

Thank you for two interesting roundtables with expert insights and lively discussions!

The panel discussion took place at the Intercity Hotel,
Mercatorstraße 57, Duisburg, and was open to the public.

Since 2014, one section of the New Silk Road rail route has directly connected Chongqing in central China with the city of Duisburg in the heart of Europe. What is the significance of the OBOR initiative for Sino-European cooperation? Participants from three different continents came together in Duisburg to explore this issue.

The Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr and the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) at the University of Duisburg-Essen hosted the event on October 11, 2018, with a large number of international guests. The forum was co-organized by Fudan University. The event was opened by H.E. Bolat Nussupov, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Germany.
