My research interests focus on studying diversity and phylogeography of the freshwater biota with the model organisms being the gammarid amphipods (Amphipoda: Gammaridae). I'm particularly interested in studying the evolutionary mechanisms of the species' diversification in the fresh waters using both morphological and molecular information. Currently, I am investigating the freshwater gammarids inhabiting the Mediterranean islands, trying to establish their biogeographical affiliations as well as to reveal the species' origin with the timeframe of their divergence. Moreover, I intend to study the patterns of species' coexistence by investigating the niche partitioning schemes and microhabitat selection using a variety of DNA-based methods.
