10 years of nwu-essen
February, 14th/15th 2013 in Essen
2003 The research group and the associated graduate school “Teaching and Learning of Science”, abbreviated as nwu-essen, were instituted by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In an interdisciplinary cooperation, experts from the fields of physics, chemistry and biology education, specialists in the psychology of learning and instruction, and educational scientists examined the problems of science education uncovered by international comparative school studies.
2013 we have the opportunity to reflect on our work: How does the nwu-essen support young researchers, fundamental research and transfer-oriented research that ties closely to schools? This retrospection involves questions about the future of natural science education research, as well as how it’s put into practice in schools and in the industry.
How can important research findings be applied to appropriate education concepts, skill enhancement and teaching? Also in question are the subsequent systems of general and vocational education; how transitions within education and on in service education are designed, this area of tertiary education seems to be especially relevant.
In this sense, the 10th Anniversary of nwu-essen centers around two central themes: retrospection and foresight.
Major findings of nwu-essen’s research will be presented and discussed, particularly with regard to the outlook of continuity and ‘visions’ of science education and educational research. The event will conclude with a panel discussion about “science education as a resource for the future”.
Major actors and stakeholders from different scientific disciplines and social fields will reflect on this topic together. Included are both colleagues and representatives of educational policy and administration, as well as professional education and management……
