A talk in the context of Bernhard Langerock’s exhibition “Balancen” [balances], with Prof. Dr. Thomas Heberer [Senior Professor for Politics and Society of China and co-director of the Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr] and Dr. Matthias Keidel [academy lecturer]
The Belgian photographer Bernhard Langerock has a unique artistic perspective on the people and urban spaces in China. Rich and poor, urban and rural, east and west, development and stagnation – it is these contrasts that deeply shape China. What lies behind the grave social differences? How does the government of the People’s Republic of China handle ecological challenges? In what way does the country cope with religions, artists and government critics?
