Hichem Naar
Since January 2018, I have been an Assistant Professor (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the department of philosophy of the University of Duisburg-Essen and a member of the Philosophical Anthropology and Ethics Research Group, led by Neil Roughley. Before coming to Essen, I have held positions at the University of Geneva, the University of Montreal, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I hold a PhD in philosophy from the University of Manchester. I was born and raised in France.
I currently work at the intersection of philosophy of mind, action theory, and ethics. In particular, I am interested in the nature of emotions and the role they might play in our practical lives. I have also been developing an account of love and our reasons for it, which has led me to tricky issues about the value of individuals and the various ways we might relate to it.
