Archiv EU-Canada Programme: Student Exchange Programme in Human Security (SEPHS)

Project Outline

The transatlantic student exchange programme SEPHS creates an opportunity for 48 Canadian and European students to deepen their knowledge and sensibility in the field of human security. Unlike traditional state-centred concepts of security, human security is concerned with the security of the individual and its protection of physical and psychical integrity. The programme aims at developing an international curriculum in the field of human security considering the different facets of the concept, e.g. human rights, humanitarian intervention and international criminal law.
The student exchange starts in winter 2008, with 6 European students spending a semester with full academic credit at a Canadian partner university, reciprocated in same quantities of Canadian students coming to European partner universities. In order to provide the students with practical experience in the field of human security SEPHS also plans to organize internships as part of the mobility programme.
