Repertoires of Migration Governance in the European Unio
8th Global Migration Lecture with Andrew Geddes
Regional migration governance in the EU exemplifies how a repertoire based on particular understandings of what is ‘normal’ about international migration – about its causes and effects and of the risks and uncertainties associated – has had powerful influences on what governance actors know how to do and what they think they should be doing.

This understanding of what is ‘normal’ about migration to, from and within Europe has shaped responses to crisis. What various types of governance actor in Europe know how to do and also what they think they should be doing are closely tied to these underlying understandings and to their persistence.

ANDREW GEDDES holds a Chair in Migration Studies and, since January 2017, has been the Director of the Migration Policy Centre. During his career, he has led and participated in a large number of major projects on aspects of international migration.
