Welcome to the website of the UDE-Chair of Turbomachinery
Discover the Chair of Turbomachinery
Turbomachines are designed to convert energy in processes operating with fluids such as steam, oxygen, air, nitrogen, water, sewerage water et al. The condition of aggregation of these fluids is gas, liquid or partially solid or a mixture of these.
Students are educated in theory and practice on the fundamentals of turbomachines. In the advanced master courses the detailed design and applications of turbomachines is discussed. The different courses are specialised on the machine type including the basic theory:
- Centrifugal pumps
- Compressors
- Gas turbines
- Steam turbines
In addition to the courses and laboratory, excursions to turbomachine manufacturers as well as power plant site visits are offered. Internship, master and bachelor thesis are also part of the program of the chair.
The research on turbomachines with numerical and experimental methods is focussed on:
- Flow in cavities e.g. hot gas ingress in gas turbines
- Acoustic modes and the interaction with the surrounding structure
- Prediction of axial thrust
- Multi-phase and multi component flow e.g. wet compression, sprays
The results of the research shall be used to develop and validate methods and tools to design turbomachines for the future.
