The formal requirements to apply for the TWM Master program include:
- a University degree (BSc, MSc) in Environmental Sciences in the Natural Science domain or in Biology with a track Environmental Sciences from a Dutch university, or in Water Sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
- a University degree (BSc, MSc, University Diploma (e.g. Universitätsdiplom), State Examination (e.g. Staatsexamen)) in Environmental Sciences (except from a Dutch university and the University of Duisburg-Essen), Biology (without track Environmental Sciences), (Landscape) Ecology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Water Sciences (except from the University of Duisburg-Essen), Water and Land Management, and Molecular Life Science.
These students have direct access to the Master program TWM. In exceptional cases a deficiency program may be imposed, depending on the qualification of the applicant. The qualification will be assessed based on an interview;
- a degree from a University of Professional Education (e.g. BSc, MSc, Diploma (Fachhochschuldiplom, HBO diploma) in one of the above mentioned study programs.

Applicants who do not meet these formal requirements can issue an admission request which will be assessed individually.
