How large are the holdings?

The Duisburg-Essen University Library is an academic universal library whose literature holdings are usually openly accessible and are arranged in the specialised libraries.

Currently, the library holds

  • about 2,4 million printed books,
  • about 268.000 e-books,
  • about 1400 current print journals and
  • about 64.000 electronic journals.

The general principles for establishing the holdings are oriented towards the teaching and research activities of the UDE. Subjects which are not taught or available only as service offered for other subjects, the library possess only basic holdings of specialised literature.

How are the holdings arranged?

The holdings of the Duisburg-Essen University Library are distributed according to content and subject over the branch libraries on both campuses. There they are arranged systematically and openly accessible.
