Citing your sources within an academic paper (by hand) is not a problem. But things like citing the same source more than once or slight changes in the citation itself, together with a growing amount of source material, can make it a problem. Citation management software can help. Citation management software allows you to save and manage your citations, documents, and quotes centrally, all in one place. Most citation management tools also offer seamless integration with MS Word and OpenOffice.

There are some tools for LaTeX which can automatically update citations and quotes within a document, making it even easier to manage your citations with bibtex.
