31.03.2019 Brazilian-German Winter School on Numerical Cognition 2019
In August 2019, the Brazilian-German Winter School on Numerical Cognition will be taking place at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte. As one of seven speakers Prof. Dr. Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann will be taking part in this week-long school.
Numerical competences play an important role in our everyday life. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the underlying internal cognitive processes of and external influences on typical as well as atypical numerical learning (also referred to as dyscalculia). The overall goal of the proposed Brazilian-German School on Numerical Cognition is to stimulate interest in the diverse subfields of research on numerical cognition among young scholars and to foster scientific exchange between Brazilian and German research communities.
21.03.2019 Guest Lecturer from South Africa
In April 2019, the Department of Educational Psychology is welcoming Prof. Dr. Caroline Long from South Africa (University of Johannesburg). Prof. Dr. Long is a renowned expert in mathematical education and IRT-models. Her visit to Germany further reinforces our cooperation with South African researchers.
01.02.2019 "International Handbook of Mathematical Learning Difficulties" is now available
The "International Handbook of Mathematical Learning Difficulties. From the Lab to the Classroom", published by Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann, Vitor Geraldi Haase and Pekka Räsänen is now available as a book as well as in a digital version!
"This comprehensive volume provides teachers, researchers and education professionals with cutting edge knowledge developed in the last decades by the educational, behavioural and neurosciences, integrating cognitive, developmental and socioeconomic approaches to deal with the problems children face in learning mathematics. [...]"
15.11.2018 Continued Advanced Training Program for the Prevention of Math Difficulties in the Beginning of Primary School
We are happy to announce that we are able to continue our comprehensive advanced training program in cooperation with Kompetenzteam Essen and Schulberatung Essen in 2019.
The training is targeted at teachers at kindergardens and primary schools and aims at identifying and preventing children's math difficulties as early as possible.
15.09.2018 Moritz Herzog in Gent as an ERASMUS Guest Lecturer
In October 2018, Moritz Herzog was a guest at the chair of Experimental Clinical and Health Psychology (Prof. Annemie Desoete). His stay was funded by the ERASMUS program for the mobility of lecturers, and included courses taught by Mr Herzog as well as the establishment of research cooperations.
15.09.2018 "Meerkat-Subitizing-Memo" is now available
"Erdmännchen-Blitzblick-Memory" ("Meerkat-Subitizing-Memo") by Moritz Herzog and Prof. Dr. Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann is now available at ProLog. This memory game helps fostering children's strategies of decompositions of numbers. If numbers are seen as sets, they can be decomposed into smaller numbers. A flexible understanding of number decompositions is a crucial prerequisite for effective arithmetic strategies.
01.05.2018 Keynote at the 16th Conference on Educational Assessment
In April 2018, Prof. Dr. Annemarie Fritz-Stratman held her keynote speech with the title "The Impact of Research on Mathematical Learning Difficulties on Teaching and Learning: A Bridge Too Far?" at the 16th Conference on Educational Assessment in Szeged (Hungary).
01.12.2017 MARKO-D1+ is now available
MARKO-D1+ (german, for students at the end of grade one and up) by Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann, Antje Ehlert, Gabi Ricken, and Lars Balzer is now available at Hogrefe. With this test, students' prerequisites for their future development at school can be examined. Delays as well as progress in a child's development can be described on a quantitative as well as a qualitative level. The latter is based on a theoretical grouping of the items. In the case of repeated obervations this has the advantage that effects on the child's development can be identified as knowledge modifications.
01.12.2017 German Handbook of Math Difficulties is now available in a completely revised edition
The German Handbook of Math Difficulties, edited by Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann, Siegbert Schmidt und Gabi Ricken, is now available in a completely revised edition. This updated version of the handbook is especially suitable for individual support of learners and differentiated teaching, and was created with the help of Giordana Matera, Lars Orbach, Julia Hartmann, and Prof. Dr. Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann (Educational Psychology at the University of Duisburg-Essen).
15.04.2018 Contribution to the 'Mathematical Cognition and Learning Society Conference' 2018
In April 2018, Prof. Dr. Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann, Moritz Herzog and Lars Orbach took part in the MCLS Conference at the University of Oxford.
They presented their "State- and Trait-Model of Math Anxiety" to their peers.
01.02.2015 Distinguished Visiting Professor
Since Janurary 2015, Prof. Dr. Annemarie Fritz-Stratmann is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
