The lecture Adsorption II builds on the lecture Adsorptionstechnik / Industrial Adsorption Technology and deals in depth with two special aspects of adsorption.
The first essential aspect is the detailed observation of adsorption processes at the molecular level. Adsorption on porous solids (adsorbents) occurs due to attractive forces between interaction centers on the surface and those of the molecules in gas or liquid phase. The type and number of interaction centers on the surface of adsorbents are significantly influenced by their structural properties and surface chemistry. In this context, well-established and novel measurement and characterization methods are taught in detail.
The second essential aspect is the modeling and simulation of adsorption processes. This includes both an in-depth consideration of adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics including isothermal models as well as modelling or computer-aided dynamic simulations of adsorption processes.
In detail the following topics will be addressed:
- Interactions during adsorption processes
- Measurement and characterization methods
- Thermodynamics of adsorption
- Single and multi-component isothermal models
- Transport phenomena during adsorption
- Simulation and modeling of adsorption processes
In addition to the lecture, an exercise is offered in which the participants set up and operate an adsorption plant. Subsequently, the students evaluate the measurement data on their own. |
