Description: |
Overview of automated systems architecture, Design and function of automation systems, PLC programming (Classic IEC 61131-3 Languages, Object-oriented extension of IEC 61131-3 languages), Bus systems and motion control. |
Learning Targets: |
Students learn the fundamentals of industrial automation with a focus on Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). This comprises an overview of open loop and closed loop control and the fundamentals of IEC 61131-3 standards as implemented in common PLC systems. In addition, an overview of common network topologies and motion control is presented. The students learn to implement control tasks using ladder diagram, function blocks, instruction list, structured text, and structured flow charts, as well as continuous function charts. Further, the students learn in the lecture and hands-on practical exercises how to create, troubleshoot, load and run simple programs on an Industrial PLC system using the CODESYS programming platform. |
