Second Symposium of the Urban Transformations Program

The second symposium of the project "Spaces-Communities-Representations: Urban Transformations in the USA" has taken place on March 27 and 28, 2014 in Bochum.

First symposium of the project to take place in Essen

On April 19 and 20, 2013, the program is holding its first conference hosted and supported by the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen.
The PhD candidates in the program will present part of their work and discuss it with scholars in their field. Moreover, experts from a variety of disciplines relating to the project theme of "Spaces-Communities-Representations: Urban Transformations in the USA" will provide their insights into the topic.
The presentations by Prof. Dr. Eva Boesenberg (Humboldt-Universität, Berlin) and Prof. Dr. Mabel Wilson (Columbia University, New York) will focus on African American conceptions of the city. Prof. Dr. Heike Bungert (University of Münster) will discuss German-American festivals in an urban context, and Prof. Dr. Andreas Mahler (Free University, Berlin), Prof. Dr. Thomas Heise (McGill University, Montréal) and Prof. Dr. Jon Hegglund (Washington State University, Vancouver) will focus on the narration of urban spaces in the United States.
