Doctoral Program in Transnational/Transatlantic
This structured doctoral program, which is jointly organized by the American Studies programs of the Ruhr universities, brings together young researchers from
all over the world. Candidates pursuing a PhD at the RuhrCenter of American Studies are invited to participate in events, activities, and seminars at all three
partner universities; most candidates have advisors from two different universities; they become part of a diverse and creative research community.
Transnational/Transatlantic American Studies: Curriculum
Over the course of the three-year program, doctoral candidates
- take seminars in American Studies,
- participate in three research colloquia where they present their work in progress to peers and senior scholars,
- gain teaching experience in their field of expertise,
- engage in practically oriented skills courses in areas such as university-level teaching, or intercultural management, organizing symposia and conferences, and editorial work.
