Master thesis
Support during your studies
A big advantage of the studies in Ship and Offshore Technology is that the number of students is restricted. As a result, supervision by the professor, assistant lecturers and assistants is very personal.
Students of higher semesters are also more than willing to support you in any aspects of your studies. Thanks to the individual atmosphere within the student community of our institute, it is easy to make personal contacts. Each student has access to work places and the CFD processor cluster. Requirements for studying Ship and Offshore Technology
In order to register for the bachelor programme in Ship and Offshore Technology, you need the German “Abitur” (baccalaureate) or an equivalent high school graduation/diploma. You may also be registered without “Abitur” (e.g. advanced technical college certificate) including an assessment test. Professional internship
The basic internship has to be accounted for by the third semester. It is recommendable to do the internship before taking up studies as the non-lecture period is needed for seminars and particularly for getting prepared for examinations. The professional internship gives you an insight into work flows and production processes as well as engineering, e.g. at a shipyard.
Test and research facilities of the institute
At the Institute of Ship Technology, Ocean Engineering and Transport Systems, there are modern high-power data processors and up-to-date software programmes for structural analyses and flow simulations. In teaching, software packages are used which are also applied in industry, thereby increasing the graduates’ career prospects and facilitating their career starts.
At the institute’s own laboratory, incl. a workshop, ships (model scale) can be designed and tested. At the Development Center for Ship Technology and Transport Systems (DST), a close co-operation partner of the University of Duisburg-Essen, our students can assist in current research activities. It has test facilities fulfilling high international standards.
