Our current research is focused on myeloid cells including monocytes/macrophages and neutrophils. These cells are part of the innate immune system and play an important role in many diseases. Using genetic models with a conditional knockout of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), we are investigating the effect of myeloid cell-derived VEGF on the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in several physiological (e.g. wound healing) as well as pathological processes (e.g. initiation and progression of cancer, development of fibrotic diseases).
